Statement from Meg Fofonoff, Founding Producing Artistic Director
Fiddlehead Theatre Company is excited to announce that as of spring 2016 we will embark on a new journey in our 21-year evolution to bring exceptional quality, professional theater to the greater Boston area. Starting with our production of RENT in February, 2016, Fiddlehead will take our shows “on the road,” allowing us to reach new audiences and different communities in the greater Boston area while exploring new pathways for artistic excellence.
From February 5-21, 2016 we will stage RENT at the Back Bay Events Center, John Hancock Hall (180 Berkeley Street, Boston). With the final production in our 21st season – Show Boat, June 23-July 2, 2016 – we will enter a new and exciting phase of growth in partnership with the Citi Performing Arts Center Shubert Theatre. We are thankful to the Citi Performing Arts Center team, including the Board, staff, and Joe Spaulding, President & CEO, for providing us with an unprecedented opportunity to stage this grand production at the Shubert, the first of many that we hope to produce at this historic theater.
Fiddlehead’s production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid from November 27-Sunday, December 6th will be our final production at the Strand Theatre, our home for the past three seasons. The Board and staff of Fiddlehead Theatre Company are sincerely grateful to the City of Boston for their support at The Strand Theatre, and to Melodie Greene who works passionately and tirelessly to keep this grand theater alive. We will always have a special place in our hearts for the Strand and the Dorchester community that became part of our lives. We hope that we have made a positive contribution to the Dorchester community over the past three years, and will continue to make our home in Dorchester at our permanent office and rehearsal space on Norwood Street.
Over the past 21 seasons our driving mission has been to produce exceptional quality main stage professional theater that uplifts while engaging diverse audiences in current issues, and building enriching community partnerships in the arts. We look forward to starting this new chapter and to enriching the theater experience for both audiences and artists for many years to come.
